Diwali & Halloween in the Chestnut room

On Monday we learned all about Diwali the festival of light through internet research and stories, we made special candle holders with clay and coloured in some Diwali lamps. At the end of the day, we had our own light festival.

Sorley “It’s a candle holder so you can light it and find the way home”

Cailean “I made a picture for my mum”

Sydney “The festival of Davalla is that’s what it’s called”

Daniel “It’s the festival of Dawali you made a candle holder and light it so you can see”

Abel “I made it for a candle to give to my mum”


On Tuesday we began our Halloween celebrations by baking and decorating cupcakes before heading out a walk to the local shop to buy some pumpkins to carveπŸŽƒ

Jaxson “I made a zombie cake” 🧟

Sydney “I’m making something that’s scary, but I don’t know what yet”

Fabian “Like it”

Cailean “I’m making Sonic the hedgehog”

Abel “|It smells like sick; I’m joking I’m making a ghost oooohhhhhhh” πŸ‘»

Sorley “The butter is really sticky, can I put a spider on mine”

On Wednesday we used our pumpkins to make pumpkin soup and homemade bread for snack. We also made some spooky Halloween creatures with fimo and enjoyed some Halloween stories with our friends.

Sydney “I didn’t like making the soup because onions make me cry”

Oliver “It’s not nice Yuck”

Abel “I liked doing that to the carrots”

Jaxson “I don’t like the soup I just like pasta”


Oliver “I’m making a ghost; ghosts live in haunted houses” πŸ‘»

Jaxson “A ghost, my ghost, he’s happy cheeeeese” πŸ‘»

Sydney “I’m making a rainbow spider” πŸ•·οΈ


On Thursday we had a visit from Helen (Sorley’s Mum) to teach us some spooky Halloween yoga and warm up our bodies before we set off on our Halloween scavenger hunt in our local woods with a lovely surprise at the end of our trail.

Sorley “It was so much fun we found a treat at the end”

Oliver “Pumpkin, cat, spider lots of spooky things, I got sweeties” πŸˆβ€β¬›

Sydney “I found a sweetie one, I love sweets, but my dad eats them. We got a sweetie in the woods for good finding”

Jaxson “Pumpkin, ghost, we had sweeties” πŸ‘»
