Chestnut Room – Smoke and Steam! 🔥

The children from the Chestnut room have expressed a keen interest in learning about fire. Some of their ideas about what they could learn include; “does steam come from fire”, “if we rub sticks really fast will they turn to fire”and “if there is a fire what could we do”.

The children begun their week with a visit to Melissa’s garden to make and start a fire in a chimenea. They took turns of using a flint striker and were delighted when they saw real flames appear! This also provided an opportunity for the children to learn about safety around fires and how to put a fire out safely.

When the fire was put out with water this sparked a discussion about the difference between smoke and steam.
